DIY Dog Enrichment Toys: Cardboard Box Game

Are you looking for some easy DIY dog enrichment toys for dogs? Or indoor enrichment activities for dogs?

Do you have an old Amazon box hanging around the house?

You can make an incredible, versatile dog enrichment activities for your dog- and the great part is that you probably already have everything you need right at your finger tips! Dog enrichment boxes are an inexpensive, DIY dog enrichment activity!

Grab any variation of the following:

  • Cardboard Box
  • Heavy paper/pieces of cardboard
  • Enrichment toys
  • Small stuffed toys (for filler)
  • Treats

Throw some treats at the bottom of the box, and if you have enrichment toys, stuff some treats in those as well. Then start piling toys and filler in the box, toss some treats as you go.

If your dog is new to this kind of activity, make it easier- fewer toys, higher value treats, and less filler. If they like to pretend to be a scent hound, overstuff the box, use less fragrant treats, and create more obstacles in the box- I used pieces of cardboard that were shaped for coffee cups which I had around the house.

This great activity is perfect for any small dog, and you can make it more difficult as your dog becomes more skilled.

Try these ideas to make it more difficult:

  • Larger or smaller box
  • Boxes inside the box
  • An egg carton with treats inside, and balls to be "eggs"
  • Close the box and fold it shut
  • Add tons of tennis balls to make it like a ball pit

Good luck! And let us know how much your dog loves this activity!
